Caring for the environment comes naturally to us. That’s why Robinson Gray is an official Columbia Green Business. Becoming a Columbia Green Business means we are dedicated to operating in an environmentally friendly manner.
Here are some of the ways that we have been able to make a difference by supporting green:
Our team reduces paper waste through the creative use of our electronic resources. We store documents electronically to limit the amount of paper files needed. We scan paper documents rather than making multiple copies. We send and receive electronic faxes rather than paper faxes. And whenever possible, we send email correspondence rather than printing and mailing hard copies.
Our office building is an example of bringing new life to an old space. Rather than constructing a new facility, our firm is proud to inhabit a historic building that has lived many lives since its origins as a schoolbook depository in the early 1900s.
Additionally, in our efforts to encourage reuse, we have eliminated the use of Styrofoam products in our office, and we encourage the use of reusable cups and kitchen items.
To encourage every day recycling, we’ve placed recycling bins throughout our office, and we recycle products like paper, plastic, aluminum, cardboard, toner cartridges, and outdated computer equipment. Whenever possible, we also attempt to use recycled office products and kitchen items.
We’ve outfitted our office with energy-efficient, compact fluorescent light bulbs that last three times longer than standard bulbs. We make a concentrated effort to reduce energy emissions by turning off all lights, computers, and office equipment at the end of each day.
ENHANCING OUR COMMUNITY
As a part of the Keep the Midlands Beautiful program, we’ve adopted Lady Street from Huger to Assembly. Three times a year for two years, our attorneys and staff members have committed to picking up trash on this area of the street.
Additionally, we’ve begun to support a local farmer who visits our office weekly and sells his fresh produce to our staff.
And, finally, in an effort to support green living outside of our office and in our community, we email weekly “living green” tips to our staff that are forwarded on and shared widely.
As we continue to pursue new ways to go green, we hope that each small step we take will add up to make a big difference for the future of our environment.
