Sowell Gray attorney Beth Richardson elected chair of New Morning Foundation Board of Directors
COLUMBIA, SC – Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC attorney Beth Richardson was recently elected Chair of the board of New Morning Foundation.
New Morning Foundation was founded in 2002 by the late Colgate Whitehead Darden III and provides funding for innovative programs and policy initiatives to improve reproductive health and family planning in South Carolina.
Richardson has served on the Foundation’s board since 2009. Her two-year term as chair began earlier this year.
Her practice at Sowell Gray focuses on commercial litigation, business dispute resolution and appellate law. Prior to joining the firm she taught advanced legal writing at the University of South Carolina School of Law and completed judicial clerkships in both the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
She currently serves as Vice Chair of the board of East Point Academy, a public charter Mandarin Immersion school and has been a member of the Junior League of Columbia since 2004. She has served as a volunteer for the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Legislative Ad Hoc Oversight Committee and the SC Attorney General’s Office Criminal Domestic Violence Prosecution Program.
“New Morning Foundation plays a critical role in improving young people’s lives in South Carolina,” said Richardson, who graduated from Duke University with a degree in women’s studies before earning her Juris Doctor at the Washington University Law School in St. Louis. “I am honored to use my experience and skills to help this board of leaders advocate for our state’s young adults.”
