Becky Laffitte, a founding member of Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, has received the Matthew J. Perry, Jr. Civility Award from the Richland County Bar Association.

The award, named after the U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Perry Jr., is bestowed annually to the judge and lawyer who best exemplify the word “civility” by exhibiting courteous and polite conduct while working in the legal profession.

Perry was a key civil rights attorney in South Carolina. In 1979, he became the state’s first African-American U.S. District judge.

Laffitte is a graduate of Columbia College, where she currently serves on the Board of Trustees, and the University of South Carolina School of Law. She’s been listed for six straight years in Best Lawyers in America in the category of personal injury litigation, and she’s been selected a South Carolina “Super Lawyer” for three straight years for her skills in Personal Injury Defense: Products

Laffitte’s practice areas are products liability, premisis liability, construction litigation, commercial transportation and trucking and alternative dispute resolution.
