Gray, Laffitte Invited To Join National Legal Honor Society

Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte LLC members Elizabeth Van Doren Gray and Rebecca Laffitte have been invited to become Fellows of The Litigation Counsel of America, a legal honorary society that inducts less than one half of 1 percent of the country’s attorneys.

The LCA’s purpose is “to recognize deserving, experienced and highly qualified lawyers,” its Web site says. The LCA also offers trial lawyers an outlet to publish scholarly legal articles, as well as opportunities for professional development. Additionally, the organization promotes “superior advocacy and ethical standards,” while also encouraging community involvement.

Fellows are invited after being evaluated on effectiveness and accomplishment in litigation and trial work. Their ethical reputations are considered as well. The selection process also includes input from the LCA’s advisory board and from other Fellows, as well as opinions from other attorneys.

Gray’s practice areas include professional liability and ethics, probate and estate litigation, and commercial litigation and business dispute resolution. A University of South Carolina graduate and board member of the USC Educational Foundation, she’s also a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Bar Foundation. She’s a past president of the South Carolina Bar and has earned numerous other recognitions and honors over the course of her career.

Laffitte’s practice areas include product liability, commercial transportation and trucking, alternative dispute resolution and health care and construction litigation. Laffitte earned her undergraduate degree at Columbia College and her master’s and law degrees at the University of South Carolina. She’s a certified court mediator and arbitrator and a member of the invitation-only Trial Attorneys of America.
