Bobby retired from the practice of law effective January 1, 2026, concluding a distinguished career defined by exceptional advocacy, leadership, and service to the legal profession.

Over decades of practice, he earned a reputation as one of South Carolina’s most respected litigators, known for handling complex commercial disputes at both the trial and appellate levels. As a named partner of Robinson Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC, Bobby played an integral role in shaping the firm’s reputation and advancing a culture rooted in integrity, civility, and excellence.

His practice spanned professional liability defense, corporate governance and shareholder disputes, constitutional and voting rights litigation, product liability, and other high-stakes business matters. He regularly represented lawyers, law firms, businesses, developers, and public entities in significant state and federal proceedings, including matters before the South Carolina appellate courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. A Fellow of both the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Trial Advocates, he received numerous honors recognizing his legal skill and leadership, including the South Carolina Bar’s Trial and Appellate Advocacy Award, Best Lawyers’ “Lawyer of the Year,” and the Richland County Bar Association’s Matthew J. Perry, Jr. Civility Award. He was consistently recognized by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, and Benchmark Litigation.
