Cal Watson becomes new SC Bar treasurer

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC Managing Member J. Calhoun Watson was sworn in as Treasurer of the South Carolina Bar on Thursday, May 3, 2012 for a one-year term. Watson has served on the South Carolina Bar Board of Governors since 2009 after previously serving from 1997 to 2000.

He served Secretary of the South Carolina Bar in 2011-12 before beginning his current term as Treasurer.

In addition to these offices, Watson has served on the South Carolina Bar’s House of Delegates since 1998. Watson also is a former president of the South Carolina Bar Foundation and the South Carolina Bar Young Lawyer’s Division.

His practice areas at Sowell Gray are professional liability and commercial litigation and business dispute resolution. Watson is also a certified South Carolina Circuit Court mediator.

A summa cum laude graduate of Wofford College, Watson holds a juris doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He has been selected as a South Carolina Super Lawyer for five consecutive years and has been listed in Best Lawyers in America yearly since 2009.
