Attorney – Workers’ Compensation Defense (Part-Time)
Robinson Gray is seeking a part-time Associate for our Workers’ Compensation team. The ideal candidate will work from our Columbia, SC office, but remote candidates within South Carolina are encouraged to apply and will be strongly considered. Applicants must be in good standing with the South Carolina Bar Association.
We’re looking for an Associate who:
- enjoys practicing law but is looking for work-life flexibility rather than a full-time role.
- can handle all aspects of defending workers compensation claims for clients including insurance companies, risk managers, employer representatives, third party administrators and self-insured employers.
- is proficient in all aspects of litigation, including discovery, depositions, trials, appeals, mediations, subrogation, and settlement.

The Nuts & Bolts of a Workers’ Compensation Associate position:
- Case evaluation and preparation
- Discovery
- Prepare for and attend hearings/depositions
- Report on hearing, depositions, appearances
- Correspond as needed
- File pleadings in response to applicants’ claims filed
- Appearance at SCWCC
- Prepare correspondence to clients regarding status and updates of active claims
- Perform legal research and analyze cases
- Develop/recommend case strategy
- Develop plan of action
- Write legal briefs and draft pleadings
- Negotiate settlements
- Administrative duties as they relate to the practice of law
